Involvement Opportunities

We place a high priority on Judaism as a relevant force in our lives, and help one another to better understand our religion through exciting educational programs. The synagogue provides formal Jewish instruction for our children, regardless of age, from kindergarten through Hebrew high school. We also offer a full spectrum of adult education courses, including informal social get-togethers, basic Hebrew instruction, and, for the more ambitious, classes in Talmud and Jewish Mysticism.

Our religious services are truly meaningful and inspiring. Strong congregational participation, in both English and Hebrew, provides congregants of any gender with an equal opportunity to worship. Tefilah, prayer, can be a personal expression of your involvement with the soul of Judaism at Temple Beth Ahm.

During services, members have an opportunity to learn more about Judaism and themselves through our Rabbi's divrei Torah (sermons/teachings). They are not only educational, but are also provocative and relevant to our time. Another aspect of our Shabbat and holiday services is an Oneg or Kiddush. This is a nice opportunity to socialize with friends and family in a Jewish setting.

Indeed, Temple Beth Ahm has something for everyone. Some of our other programs and activities include:

  • Young Jewish Professionals Group
  • Sisterhood and Men's Club
  • Family Shabbat dinners
  • Preschool School
  • Holiday programs for pre-schoolers
  • U.S.Y. Youth Groups
  • Scholars-in-residence programs
  • Weekday daily evening and Sunday/Thursday morning minyanim
  • Judaica gift shop
  • Musical concerts and programs
  • Junior Congregation and Tot Shabbat
  • Stimulating adult education programs
  • Individual Bar/Bat Mitzvahs
  • Exciting family holiday program

Membership

Being a member of Temple Beth Ahm means you believe in our goals of creating a vibrant Jewish community in Monmouth County, supporting Jewish worship, education, culture, and the Jewish people worldwide. We need members to support the community through volunteer efforts and fiscal dependability to met the needs of our congregation.

We believe that every one has something to offer, and monetary dues should not be a barrier to membership — although we depend on the monetary gifts of the congregation to operate our building and programs. Rather than a set schedule of dues, we utilize The Promise Program.

In our promise membership model, we recognize that each of us has a different capacity to give. Therefore, we do not specify a required membership fee, but rely on each of our members to determine the commitment amount for themselves. Each spring, all members make a new commitment.

If you are interested in becoming a member, we will ask you to make "a promise"—meaning, to commit to giving Temple Beth Ahm a self-determined dollar amount.

To help you determine your financial promise, it is important that you understand the financial needs of the synagogue. In order to cover our operating expenses for 2024-2025, the "sustaining amount" is $2,600 per 2-adult household per year.

The "sustaining amount" is the dollar amount that, if every member unit gave to the synagogue, would meet our base operating budget expenses. The amount you commit is entire up to you, but if you are able, please consider committing more than this sustaining amount. Together as a community, we can raise the funds necessary to sustain Temple Beth Ahm!
